Expectations and Basic Policies

My basic policies all exist so that you can give yourself a chance to learn but also so you can give yourself some space to take care of the rest of your life.

Main policy: If you are sick, please rest!! If in doubt, don't come to class in person - zoom in!

This semester is going to be an experiment in flexibility. We’re nowhere near out of the crisis that COVID-19 has set in motion, and though you may have settled into something like a rhythm, things could change at any moment. Anxiety and exhaustion, mentally and physically, are ever-present realities.

With that in mind, here are my main expectations:

Discussion Expectations

  1. Be open to new perspectives and be respectful for different opinions.
  2. Try to stay aware of current events and what's going on in the community.
  3. Try to listen to others without immediately disavowing them. Try separating your feelings from the topic of discussion.

Face Mask Policy

Until further notice by the university, face masks are required in classrooms, including labs and other indoor spaces used for instruction, unless a student presents a Letter of Accommodation issued by the Office of Student Accessibility Services. To support proper masking, eating and drinking are prohibited in all classrooms. Students who fail to comply with these requirements must exit the classroom at the request of the instructor and may be subject to university discipline and penalties, which may possibly include withdrawal from the course without a refund. Students may contact the Dean of Students Office with questions and concerns. Please refer to the university’s Coronavirus webpage for information on masks and other updates. .
